  1. Thank you for keeping us up to date on the Christmas TV schedule! I can hardly wait for them to start.
Do you have any suggestions for Christmas themed movies from the 1950's & 60's? Something Doris Day like, lighthearted and entertaining.

    1. I absolutely love your Question... because I, too, love a good Doris Day film! I would suggest, of course, On Moonlight Bay... for a Wonderful Doris film, with Christmas!

And, as for other Christmas films, with a Lighthearted "Doris Day" Movie feel, I would suggest: Meet Me in St. Louis, Bachelor Mother, Christmas in Connecticut, Holiday Inn, White Christmas, and It Happened on 5th Avenue.

      Hope that helps, a little!

Would love to know your suggestions, Miss Jane, and others who read this comment...

    2. do you know the name of a christmas movie of a single/divorced mom of 2. The lived at a motel, she worked in a cafรฉ/restaurant and the 2 kids drew a Christmas tree on the wall in their motel room and used bottle caps and glued them on the wall for ornaments. Later the dad tries to come back and take one of the kids, then dumps the child back at the motel. The little town pools together and helps the mom and 2 kids to get a home of their own. A great movie but can't remember the name of it to find it. Please email me at tiffanysandykaye@gmail.com if you know the movie. Thank you

Later she ends up finding out that the bad boy guy is not loyal and she falls in love with the guy (from the first movie) who was her first crush. 30. Can't wait! I think it's a smart move to start with Lacey's movie. Last summer, her movie was the one they used as the one new movie in their Christmas in July celebration and it did well in the ratings.

In past years, when Hallmark has started airing their new movies in early November, the first few movies almost felt like throwaways sometimes. It could be because it's so early and many people are not going to watch a Christmas movie a week after Halloween. But by starting their season with a big name like Lacey Chabert, and then following it one week later with Lori Loughlin, and then one week after that you have Danica McKellar, it seems obvious that Hallmark is trying to grab viewers early and keep them watching all season long and not just having people watch between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

They're starting the Countdown with "A Perfect Christmas" and "Family for Christmas" on the first Saturday and Sunday night, respectively -- unless the schedule changes and something else new gets added in. The way Hallmark has it set up now, they have got 2 "July sneak preview movies" (from 2015 and 2016) lined up for that first weekend of the Countdown (10/29 and 10/30), but if something new needs to be added into the Countdown they can easily bump "Family for Christmas" from the 10/30 slot.

"A Perfect Christmas" only sneak previewed in July. It was not an official premiere. It aired only once, deliberately intended to officially premiere during the Countdown. There are a LOT of people who missed seeing "A Perfect Christmas" for various reasons, and so the official premiere is for them. It is still a "new" movie, by TV standards. It's just not 100% new because a lot of us watched it in July. Hallmark was always going to give it an official weekend slot to premiere during the Countdown -- just as they did with "Family for Christmas" last year in December -- but it was just a matter of where in the line-up it would go.

I actually think that it's a really bad programming decision to start off a 2-month Countdown, right out of the gate, with "A Perfect Christmas" -- even though it is still considered a new movie. The new Lacey Chabert movie is an entire, full week later -- not just a couple of days later -- which makes a big difference in the TV world.

The problem is that many, many people already complain about Hallmark starting the Countdown to Christmas too early. People are already in an uproar because they are "forgetting" Halloween. Starting even one week later could have quieted the mobs of angry viewers just a tiny bit.

IF Hallmark is going to be bold enough to actually start a Countdown to Christmas before 10/31, and jump into 1500+ hours of all day/all night holiday programming, they should start off with a bang -- as they always do, every year -- with a brand new/never-before-seen-by-anyone movie on that first weekend.

What this programming choice is going to lead to is grumpy viewers (who are already ticked off about losing The Golden Girls and Lucy for 2 months) and Halloween fans (who are angry about Hallmark skipping that holiday) complaining to Hallmark about starting out a 2-month Countdown without a new movie. They will say, "I already saw that movie in July... why are you starting before Halloween if you are not going to premiere a new movie? You show the same movies over and over, and you can't even show a new movie now?"

With all of the new movies Hallmark has to premiere, it would be very easy to just stick a totally new one onto that first Saturday or Sunday, no matter which one it is.

And I do think that whether or not the first few new movies were throwaways is subjective. I was not a fan of "One Starry Christmas," but many people LOVE that movie. That one premiered at the beginning of the Countdown in 2014. "'Tis the Season for Love," while not being a favorite of mine, stars Sarah Lancaster -- one of Hallmark's favorite "family" members. They didn't start the Countdown last year thinking that her movie was a throwaway. They started with her movie because they thought Sarah would bring in the viewers with that specific movie.

I hope the schedule changes and Hallmark puts a brand new movie on the actual starting weekend of the Countdown, not a movie that is "sort of new"! Lol.

  31. Quite honestly, I don't care what movie they start with for the Christmas Countdown, as long as it starts! ๐Ÿ˜ As for Halloween, they will be showing fall movies for 6 weeks prior to the countdown to Christmas movies. Unless Hallmark just decided to drop "A Curveball Christmas" when it was already in development for the network, and Lifetime or another network jumped in at the right time and picked it up, I don't think it will go to another network this year.

The titles that end up on other channels instead of Hallmark tend to be the ones that Hallmark/Crown never announced. For example, "A Snow Capped Christmas" was never announced by Hallmark or Crown itself. It was mentioned by other sources that it was going to Hallmark, but not by Hallmark itself.

That's the key -- it doesn't matter who says it is a Hallmark movie while it's being made or even after it has wrapped up. If Hallmark/Crown does not step up and announce the movie as part if its line-up, then the movie could end up anywhere, on any network.

But... in the case of Curveball Christmas, I believe that Hallmark/Crown actually named that title in its own press releases (and passed the info on to other outlets such as The Futon Critic). They claimed it, and it was in development specifically for Hallmark.

If CC doesn't end up airing this year, then it is likely because it got delayed in development (which could happen for a variety of reasons). The same thing would apply to other movies that may or may not appear in this year's Hallmark Countdown to Christmas line-up, such as the Jaime Pressly movie, the Brooke Shields movie, etc. Those were specifically announced by Hallmark/Crown as being Hallmark movies, so they shouldn't end up on another network -- especially not this year -- but they may have gotten stuck in development and delayed until 2017.

  62. Net - I saw a promo for the new Kristin Chenoweth-Scott Wolf Christmas movie last night, and apparently the title has changed yet again.

It is now being called "Christmas Love Story"!! Did you see the promo too?

This latest title change (title #3) is interesting, because there is nothing in it that hints at music or singing (like the second title did), nor is there anything that references angels (as the first title did). I wonder if they will change it again, before November!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Thanks so much for the Christmas movie tip! (Didn't get to watch last night - was away for Mother's Day with family.) That is interesting they changed the name of the movie and it doesn't include any hint of music or angels in the title.

I like it better, myself, when a movie actually corresponds with a film - as it makes it easier to remember which one it is, especially when we have 40 of them to keep straight... and Christmas movie titles can be quite similar. A generic title like "Christmas Love Story" could, frankly, apply to every Hallmark Christmas movie. Let's hope they change it again! :)

      Delete
    2. Maybe it’s a play on Love Story, Without the serious sickness?

      Delete
    3. Net -- That's exactly what I thought when I saw the promo. Well, first I had to get over the surprise of seeing the promo for this movie in May, during a commercial break near the end of "Summer Villa"! lol If anything, I would have expected the promo to be shown on Fridays, when Christmas movies are shown, but not during a summer film.

So after I got past the surprise of seeing this unexpected advertisement, I felt exactly as you did about the title. It's not that it's a bad title. It's fine.

BUT there is nothing in this new title to clue viewers in to which movie it might be, in a sea of many movies. There is nothing in the title to indicate that music is a big part of the story.

And, as you said, with 40 new movies to keep track of, even the most seasoned Hallmark movie viewers have trouble keeping up with all of the similar variations of Hallmark titles (we're not even counting the Christmas movie titles on other networks too!). Imagine the new viewers trying to keep up!

It helps to have at least one keyword in any title that can help to identify which story it is, so it is not confused with another movie.

  79. It was a long haul but we eventually finished viewing almost all of the Christmas movies which Net listed.

The results are in and this is my ilst of the best and worst Christmas movies of 2021.

ION movies in particular were pretty awful, HMM led the way, UP was a mixed bag Hallmark had a few good ones but quite a few disappointments, the majority of Lifetime left a lot to be desired and GAC had winners and losers.

Overall there were only a few we didn't watch either they just didn't appeal or the Family-Friendly content was unacceptable:

    Christmas Sail
    Our Christmas Journey
    Deck These Halls
    Under The Christmas Tree

    The three worst were:

Christmas In Montana - Melissa Joan Hart, Duane Henry and Jamey Sheridan - Lifetime

A heatwave in Montana in December (yes really!)

An annoying voice with a weird British accent from the male lead and unappealing characters made this one long bore.

Christmas Down Under - Justine Kecir and Paul O'Brien - ION

Weird, vulgar and loud - terrible

Nantucket Noel - Trevor Donovan & Sarah Power - Hallmark

A complete train wreck, right from the start when the daughter shop-lifted, the grandfather was one of the most obnoxious Hallmark characters ever, the chemistry was zero, this was one long snoozefest.

Did Trevor Donovan really read the script before agreeing to do this?

Why he ever got involved in this mess I'll never know.

    My top 10.

    Actually a top 9 since I couldn't decide between a few for #10.

    Just missing out:

Gingerbread Miracle - Merritt Patterson & John Ecker - Hallmark

The Holiday Fix-Up - Jana Kramer & Ryan Mc Partland - Lifetime

It Takes A Christmas Village - Brooke Nevin & Corey Sevier - Lifetime

A Very Merry Bridesmaid - Emily Osment & Casey Deidrick - Hallmark

  80. Top 9 Christmas Movies 2021 cont'd

    #9

The Great Christmas Switch - Sarah Lind, Dillon Casey, Jon McLaren - GAC

Although not universally liked, this for me was one of the GAC hits of the Season.

I never thought Sarah Lind was a great match for Jesse Metcalfe in the Martha Vineyard Mystery series but she came into her own in this.

The interaction between the two "different" actors was witty and each was able to show the other the right path to take - it was very well scripted.

I was especially pleased that the couple about to divorce realised they actually still loved one another although I found it hard to believe that the children would not have sensed that this was not their real mother.

    An engrossing movie.

    Review previously submitted

    #8

Next Stop Christmas - Lyndsy Fonseca, Chandler Massey - Hallmark

It was quite hard to put this down at #8 for in so many ways it was THE outstanding movie - it had a bit of everything including Christmas cheer.

There was great acting by all involved, the plot was intriguing, highly amusing and the dialogue flowed smoothly unlike so many Hallmark movies nowadays - there were a number of subplots but they all interweaved.

There were parallels to Back To The Future and Christopher Lloyd and Lea Thompson were both in the cast although personally I remember Lea more for Jane Doe.

The lead actors were simply fantastic - their facial expressions were superb and told a story.

From the credits it was obvious who Angie would end up with and I was with Ben all the way - he was a salt-of-the-earth normal guy who had given his heart to Angie from his youth while she didn't seem to see him other than as a friend but they were so natural together and he wasn't a boring guy - he had a dry wit and natural charm.

The angst on his face almost had my heart breaking at times especially when Angie got engaged to her news reporter boyfriend and he congratulated her and told her he wished the best for her and would always be there for her.

Who couldn't have been moved when Angie finally received the note Ben had written for her years ago but had been misplaced?:

"You have my heart Angie, you always have.

No matter where life takes us that will never change".

Angie suddenly realises she loves Ben - I will be honest though and say that is probably the least convincing bit of the movie - it seems a bit empty.

When she phones him and tells him OMG the look on Ben's face and then the masterful WHERE ARE YOU?

He arrives just too late as the train takes Angie back to her life 10 years later and this is where everything seems to fall apart.

I can accept that the situation at the beginning of the movie is what Angie is taken back to change but surely the two paths have to corelate at some stage?

Nothing seems to make sense after this - Ben knew where she was so could go after her which apparently he did.

Supposedly they have been dating for 10 years (really?) however back in the present day Angie doesn't seem to know this seems to think her mother and father might be divorced , that Ben arranged an adoption for her sister etc, etc.

None of it makes sense, she doesn't even know anything about the past 10 years even thathey had last met just a couple of days previously and why would Ben think that she would accept his proposal now when she had been holding off for those years?

I have just question after question.

Instead of being able to wallow in the joy that Ben had achieved his heart's desire I am left feeling disorientated and confused.

No-one else in the family has a clue either and I have seen several others write that the ending doesn't make sense.

I really wish the writers could explain to me just what exactly happened.

What should have been the clear #1 finishes at #8

    1. Florence, I just love your take on Next Stop, Christmas! Those time travel type movies always get to me at the very end. That same sort of ending also happens with Candace Cameron Bure in A Shoe Addict's Christmas. At the end, it appears as if she doesn't know who she is even married to - when the guy comes in (the brother) and teasingly says, "Honey, I'm home!" She has to look at the frame of their wedding to know who her husband is. Very odd. The same ending scenario happens in Eve's Christmas, too. Otherwise, these movies are great, but I agree, the end is baffling.

    3. Jane, I'm still finishing up with the Christmas movies, too! It has never taken me this long before, but I've stopped here and there to watch other movies that premiered this year, as well. Usually, I'm done by late February or mid-March.

I recently watched Joy for Christmas with Cindy Busby and Sam Page, which was great, and now, I'm finally on my last one - Hallmark's 'Tis the Season to Be Merry!

Hope you enjoy your last movies on GAC Family. Glad your able to watch through Frndly TV. So nice to hear from you! :)

Reba McEntire's Christmas In Tune - Lifetime - Reba McEntire & John Schneider

This a great example of never to judge a book by its cover.

I'm already dreading this Christmas as it seems there are going to be even more Christmas movies than last year - it was past Easter before we finished 2021's.

If you try to cut corners then you might just miss a gem.

I'm not at all a fan of"older" lead actors, not big on country although I like the pop-slanted material and an not overly impressed by Lifetime so in trying to save time this is one I could easily have said "Maybe we could skip watching this".

How wrong I would have been.

    This was superb.

I'm familiar with Reba McEntire but can't say I knew much about John Schneider - there was an electric connection between them, the chemistry jumped out of the TV set, the banter between them was scintillating and I actually enjoyed the music!

It was lovely the way they tied in the military connection and even the daughter's secondary blossoming romance added another dimension to the movie.

One of the few Lifetime highlights.

Time For Them To Come Home For Christmas - Jessy Schram & Brendan Penny

If asked to name Hallmark actors I'm sure that neither Jessy nor Brendan would immediately come to mind. yet both have been appearing for some considerable time now and are the backbone of the company - they very rarely set a foot wrong and their movies are always enjoyable.

This was a great pairing - not for the first time Brendan was playing a nurse.

Jessy had lost her memory and Brendan obviously had something big playing on his mind - I particularly enjoyed the mystery element to this and did not have a clue where the plot would go

The road journey to where they believed Jessy originated from was enchanting with a different aspect to the various stopovers (nice to see Alison Sweeney make a cameo appearance)and it was lovely to see the growing affection between the pair.

It did go off the rails for me a bit towards the end - Brendan talking to his brother over his grave spooked me to some extent and the attitude of Jessy's sister was off-putting but overall this was an engrossing movie worth watching over - Florence

    1. Florence, I got it! So sorry - I was a little behind this week in posting comments.

Another two great movies for your list! I also thoroughly enjoyed Reba McEntire's Christmas In Tune. You are so right - Reba and John had a wonderful connection on screen, both are so natural. I think since they've known each other for years that worked well for them.

As for Time For Them To Come Home For Christmas, I keep re-writing that ending in my mind. I so want Brendan's brother to be alive and maybe... he just didn't want to see him sick. It could've been a beautiful, heartwarming ending, with him finally reaching out to his brother and being there for him, but this way was too real. So sad. Otherwise, I agree, the movie is great.

Once again, Florence, I enjoyed your assessment... So far, every movie you've mentioned is in my It's a Wonderful Movie Awards nomination list for the 2022 Christmas movies. (coming soon!!!)

  83. The two Christmas movies which Reel Entertainment advised last year (2021) had been sold to Lifetime

Loving Christmas - Btittany Bristow and Loivier Renaud
A La Carte Christmas - Erin Agostino and Dillon Casey

are reportedly in Lifetime's line-up for Christmas 2022

I'm worried about Hallmark's A Cozy Christmas Inn - how is this going to play out?

If the two leads are Jodie Sweetin and David O'Donnell then surely Lauren has either
    a) moved on without committment
    b) she and Andy married and divorced
    c) passed away

I can't see any other scenario.

Whichever is the case in my mind it's going to bring into question the endings in all other Hallmark movies - Florence

'Tis The Season To Be Merry - Rachael Leigh Cook, Travis Van Winkle - Hallmark

They (almost!) saved the best for last.

The final 2021 Christmas movie for Hallmark and what a cracker it was.

I'm not a big Rachael Leigh Cook fan but I always go into a movie with an open mind and fair's fair, she really nailed this one - easily the best performance I have ever seen from her as a blog writer extraordinaire on relationships writing a book outlining how rules have led her to meeting Mr Right, ostensibly her fiance - who actually doesn't exist.

She plays the naive but lovable dork to perfection and is the perfect foil for the outgoing and brash Travis Van Winkle, her Editor's brother.

TVW has the sort of happy face a la Paul Greene or Andrew Walker which makes you want to smile and is much underused by Hallmark.

They were so awkward yet also natural around each other and there was obviously some history between them which could have been minor or major - it was actually never explained.

The banter between them was superb but there was great acting all round from the whole cast, excellent scripting, good dialogue and the movie moved along at a great pace with never a dull moment.

There were a few odd things such as the mother and father selling their business which had been in the family for three generations without telling their offspring but it was entertaining the way three love stories were intertwined.

The romance between the coffee shop owner and Merry's boss was a bit bland but I really enjoyed the sister's story where the guy appeared to have an interest in Merry but was actually looking for her professional opinion!

The ending added the final touch for me - up to a couple of years ago at THE final kiss you always knew the characters were in it for a long and happy relationship however recently I am often left feeling that this is just for the moment in time and even a long-distance nwhich doesn't work for me.

Showing a short epilogue a year down the line, with Merry's revised book and focusing on the big ring on her tihrd finger, left hand just rounded off a really lovely movie.

A Christmas Miracle For Daisy - Jill Wagner, Nick Bateman GAC Family

I thought this was the pick of GAC's inaugural season but there were more critical reviews than there normally would be for a Jill Wagner movie and I was quite surprised to even see a comment here that there wasn't much connection between Whitney and Connor.

I thought they'd great chemistry but I'm a sucker for "Lovers Reunited" and I really adored the initial remeeting with the shock, awkwardness and then sniping and bickering.

Children can be awkward on movies, so often they overact and are 13 going on 30 but the girl playing Daisy was excellent.

This was just like one of those Hallmark movies of yesteryore which they could churn out seemlessly.

I previously submitted a review for this so suffice to say that this was a delight from start to finish - Jill and Nick had such a warm
and delighful presence on screen, the story was engrossing and there were all the elements of Christmas.

This could very well have been my #1 but sad to say there was a downside for me - I found Whitney's best friend and business partner very annoying - she had a grating laugh. far too much of an interest in Whitney's love-life and after blowing off a guy for years when he "decided" to move on she capriciously then decided he was the one for her.

But Jill and Nick just made such a lovely couple together and I had that lovely warm and fuzzy feeling when the movie ended - Florence

#3 Ghosts Of Christmas Past - Annie Clark, Dan Jeannotte Lifetime

Well now, this is a turn up for the books.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if most here haven't even seen this.

We never thought we would get to the end of watching the Christmas 2021 movies and if you tried to pick and choose which ones you could pass over then this low budget movie could have fit the bill and what a shame it would have been.

I know some will be upset by Ellie's meeting with a medium at the office Christmas party (I respect thse views) but I personally thought it was a bit of fun.

I've previously submitted a review for this.

Basically Ellie is afraid of commitment and one week before Christmas she is warned by the medium that she has to apologise to all the men she has ghosted in the past before Christmas Eve or she will never find true love.

Charlie is (wrongly) regarded as the office joker and he and Ellie are paired to submit a pitch for a new game, in the process he gets involved in helping Annie search for all those she has ghosted.

The pair have such a great on-screen presence, the whole film is really quirky and the banter between them is so warm-hearted and exhilarating that I found myself really engrossed.

The secondary cast of Ellie's mother, brother and sister-in-law all turn in good performances, there is a great and unexpected twist at the end of the film and what a great ending it is!

Who knows why one person enjoys something so much when others don't? - this has only a modest 6.2 rating at IMDb but at least I do see a couple of others here liked this.

For me a real little gem, one of the unexpected highlights of Lifetime's Christmas movies - Florence

    #2 My Family Christmas Tree

You're never going to get a movie without negative reviews but surely thus is the one with the least of those.

With a score of 7.7 on IMBd this is the highest ever rating for Hallmark.

It is an enthralling movie, excellently scripted and produced, overall realistic with a lot of Christmas devices and every single cast member puts in a stellar performance.

Perhaps it was fortunate that we watched this early in the season for usually a couple of weeks in and you get a whiff of a Gingerbread House Competition you're ready to run for the hills!

Aimee teegarden as Vanessa once again stole the show with her expressive face and you were with her the whole way through her ups and downs.

James Tupper as Richard the father though gave her a good run for the accolade of best actor of the movie.

I would actually say that he was the main male character rather than Anndrew Walker and I think this deliberate on the part of Hallmark.

The focus of the film was on a DNA test which indicated Richard and Vanessa were father and daughter rather than the romance between Vaness and Kris (AW).

I loved all the little one-liners which Hallmark throws in such as when Richard was explaining to his wife that the affair with Vanessa's mother was long before he met her and without missing blink she comes back I know that, I've done the maths!

    to be continued

  88. I have watched Moriah's Lighthouse 3 times already. Obviously, I really like the movie. I saw nothing bad in it so I'd say it is family friendly. Hope it comes out on dvd soon. Still waiting for Return to Christmas Creek, Christmas Bow, Eight Gifts of Hanukkah, Christmas CEO, My Christmas Family Tree, Twelve Gifts of Christmas, Finding Christmas, Window Wonderland, Christmas Land, Thanksgiving House, Christmas Cottage, and Love in Paradise. Hopefully, some will come out during Christmas in July. Also, would still love to see Farewell, Mr. Kringle on dvd.

  89. My Family Christmas Tree Cont'd

They threw some doubt into the relationship of father and daighter by revealing that Richard had met her mother whose name was Trish in Rhode Island whereas Vanessa called her mother Paddy and believed she had lived all her life in New York, however in my part of the world Trish and Paddy are both relatively common nicknames for Patricia also this was 30 years ago when attitudes towards unmarried mothers were still heavily frowned on in especially in rural areas so wouldn't it make sense for the mother to move to a big city, "change" her name perhaps even make out she had been married?

Overall it was a lovely warm-hearted Christmassy movie with a feel-good factor and touch of realism.

Despite this for me there was one downside and that was the romance between Vanessa and Kris - it was not that it took second place to the DNA story but it was just too low key and really needed to be more sharply defined and to some extent Andrew Walker's contriburion was diluted.

Black mark to Hallmark too for their trailer which gave away one of the major plot developments so you knew what was coming - it would have had much more effect if you hadn't known in advance.

Still, one of THE major hits of the 2021 Christmas season and kudos to all involved - Florence

  90. Corey Sevier seems to be breathing, eating and sleeping new movies at the minute.

Yet another new Christmas movie for 2022 from him co-starring Emily Alatalio:

    Christmas Plus One

When sisters Cara and Amy make a pact to find their soulmates by next Christmas, they’re not expecting to be so successful! One year later, Amy’s winter wedding approaches and Cara finally finds her own perfect man, inviting him as her plus one. But after immediately losing his number, all hope is lost. Will she find him in time to make her Christmas wish come true? Or does love have other plans for Cara?

He already has the one assigned to Lifetime so could this be Hallmark (doubtful), UPtv (perhaps) but I just wonder if this is one we might not get to see.

He has several out there such as Meet Me In New York which don't look as if they are going to be aired - Florence

#1 Eight Gifts Of Hanukkah - Inbar Lavi & Jake Epstein, Hallmark

You just never know in paper how a movie will come over.

Every year when I see the Christmas list I would pick half-a-dozen or so which I would expect to be the best but it rarely works out like that.

    I certainly wasn't expecting this #1.

Afew years back I couldn't have told you anything about a Jewish Christmas but then Lifetime aired Mistletoe and Menorahs curiously also starring Jake Epstein which was really excellent.

Since then it has become almost oblgitory for the main channels to have a Jewish themed Christmas movie and Mr Epstein seems to be the "go to" star for lead actor - Hallmark won the race for 2021!

My favourite plot is that of lovers' reunited or where someone has unrequited feelings and has never declared themselves.

I had never heard of Inbar Lavi (Sarah) before but she and Daniel (Epstein) were both brilliant in their roles, such a strong bond between them, seemingly like brother and sister although Daniel has been in love with Darah for yrears and has now decided to make his move by anonymously sending her a gift on each of the eight nights of Hanukkah.

Sarah recovering from a recent break-up is beginning to have deeper feelings than friendship but it is confusing her.

There is a personal background to each of these gifts and Daniel really wants Sarah to recognise that he is the sender.

I was quite amused later in the movie when he sulked that she never even considered him!

The whole cast was excellent in their roles - Srahs had three other suitors who were all personble although the ex-boyfriend who was trying to make a comeback was slightly "dodgy".

Sarah's brother who was also Daniel's best friend was particularly good and there was great interaction between Sarah's family (Daniel included as the boy-next-door) as they gathered each night to light another candle.

There was a delighful succession of Jewish traditions displayed throughout.

It was a warm-hearted, engrossing movie which drew you right in.

There was one flaw in the plot for me.

Sarah was an intelligent woman and the gifts had a personal meaning so after the third or fourth one she should surely realise that the sender could only be someone who knew her almost intimately which would have ruled out the two men she had only recently met.

This only left either the ex-boyfriend or someone close to her she hadn't considered.

It was highly amusing when Daniel lost his temper and reveals he is the sender and he has loved her for years and Sarah realises her true feelings they even manage initially to have a row about that!

It always leaves me mushy when someone who has secretly worshipped a person for years finally gets those feelings returned.

I was delighted too when in the final scene Daniel produces the eighth gift - a ring.

In a lot of Hallmark movies now I am left with the feeling that the relationship is very much of the moment and may not necessarily last.

In my ignorance I initially thought it was an engagement ring and didn't register he was putting it on her right hand but apparently it was a Jewish friendship ring which had a deep meaning.

It's not like Hallmark to miss a trick but I feel they did here.

One of the gifts was a photo frame and they could jave concluded by showing FIVE TEARS LATER with a photograph in it of Sarah and Daniel and a couple of kids - this would only have taken 15 pr 20 seconds.

    Simply superb.

  92. I would like to mention two other movies which were worthy but fell foul of me.

Five More Minutes - Nikki DeLoach & David Haydn-Jones

Well constructed and poignant and you needed a box of Kleenex handy! but it crossed a personal line for me when David made a decided play for Nikki even though she was in a committed relationship

The Christmas Promise - Torrey DeVitto & Dylan Bruce.

I must admit I am a purist and I believe there is that one true love for everyone, which is why I mainly feel when one of the leads has been married before then it is always a case of second best.

I was particuarly looking forward to seeing Dylan Bruce after so long.

Loved him in A Novel Romance with Amy Acker, a movie which we re-watch a couple of times a year.

If say one of the partners is divorced or has a broken engagement then I feel the first love was not the true one.

Where Hallmark erred for me was that they started by showing Torrey in the final days of her engagement before her fiance (played by the perennial "loser" Giles Panton) was killed.

But you could see the deep love between them so that Dylan could never be anything but second best and it ruined what could otherwise have been a compelling movie.

Had they not showed thise initial scenes I would have been happy to believe that the first fiance was a "mistake".

Since I started keeping records these have been my top Christmas movies each year.

2014 The Nine Lives Of Christmas
    Kimberley Sustad & Brandon Routh

    2015 A Christmas Detour
Candace Cameron Bure & Paul Greene

    2016 A December Bride
    Jessica Lowndes & Daniel Lowndes
The first half hour of this was the funniest I have ever
    seen on Hallmark

    2017 Marry Me At Christmas
    Rachel Skarsten & Trevor Donovan

    2018 Mingle All The Way
    Jen Lilley & Brant Daugherty

So close this year I would also mention
    Once Upon A Christmas Miracle
    Aimee Teegarden & Brett Dalton

    2019 Picture A Perfect Christmas
    Merritt Patterson & Jon Cor

2020 Time For Us To Come Home This Christmas
    Lacey Chabert & Stephen Huszar

  93. Apparently one of Hallmark's Christmas movies is:

Maple Valley Christmas starring Kimberley Sustad and Andrew Walker - can't wait to hear the synopsis.

    Two for Lifetime 2022:

Reindeer Games starring Sarah Drew and Justin Bruning

Destination Christmas starring Natasha Wilson and Edward Ruttle:

Emma Warner feels like she lives Christmas year-round. As SVP at a toy company, she has had a great year with the season’s most successful toy but she is exhausted. All she wants is a non-holiday vacation with hot guys and a beach. Her assistant books her a flight to St. Johns but she ends up on the wrong plane and lands in St. Johns, Alaska, a town that goes all out for Christmas. Local holiday hero, Connor is stuck dealing with Emma who he considers a scrooge until her childhood Christmas memories thaw her to this town and to Connor.

    1. Florence, Yes, Andrew Walker is currently filming "Maple Valley Christmas" for Hallmark. He shared a pic on his instagram (https://www.instagram.com/p/CgP5TC2v8Dc/) that had everyone guessing who his co-star might be. While to me, it looked like Rachel Boston, and many guessed Rachel in comments, along with Kimberley Sustad and Bethany Joy Lenz, it was revealed that his co-star is actually Peyton List, of The Tomorrow People and Star Trek: Picard. (I don't know those shows, but I noticed on her IMDB she was also in an episode of Monk, and I remember her on there as the Magician's assistant.)

So... from what I hear, she's Andrew's co-star. I'm sure Hallmark will officially be confirming this at some point. There's a lot of filming going on right now and various productions in-the-works. I keep hearing all sorts of Christmas movie details, here and there, and I've tried to report on all of these happenings in the past, but it's too time consuming to do so now with the incredible amount of holiday films coming out.

It is fun to hear Christmas movie news, though, on social media, and that image Andrew Walker shared in front of the barn all decked out for holidays... looks like a beautiful Christmas dream.

Thank you, Florence, for also sharing the synopsis for Destination Christmas! Love that she ends up in a Christmas town! I agree, that sounds soooo good! :)

  95. New Steve Lund Lifetime Christmas movie - co-star Kathryn Davis

    Six Degrees Of Santa

Christmas enthusiast and single mom, Steph, has created a program, Six Degrees of Santa, in which anonymous “Santas” give a gift (along with instructions) to be passed along, temporarily enjoyed, and re-gifted, indefinitely. Her goal is to create a Christmas experience that’s real-life, magical, and unexpected. When Steph’s own gift lands in the hands of a leading internet entrepreneur, Jason, he’s convinced that the original Santa might be his soul mate. He seeks out Steph, as the architect of the program, to help him track down this mystery woman (that happens to be her). Jason represents everything Steph is against, especially when it comes to Christmas, so she gets to work immediately… on leading him astray.

We are really going to be weighed under with Christmas movies this year and I am going to have to try and find ways of cutting back on viewing.

Difficult but even though Steve Lund is one of my favourites the plot-line is one of my pet hates so this is one I can happily igore - Florence

    3. With the big Christmas announcements imminent these are at the top of my Christmas wish list:

Christmas in Rockwell - Stephen Huszar

A Merry Single Christmas - Chelsea Gibson, Andrew Rogers.
Two ex's sign up fpr the same single Christmas retreat - my favourite plot of lovers re-united.

Christmas In Pine Valley - Rene Ashton, Andrew Biernat

Christmas Retreat - Rhiannon Fish, Clayton James

Planes, Trains & Christmas Trees - Kathryn Davis, Oliver Renault

My Favourite Christmas Tree - Emma Johnson, Giles Panton

Destination Christmas - Natasha Wilson, Edward Ruttle (hoping he can redeem himself from the disastrous A Honeymoon To Remember earlier this year).

An executive who wants to escape Christmas is booked by her assistant into St. John Alaska instead of the Caribbean and it turns out to be a town big on Christmas! Love these.

My #1 hope though is Christmas Plus One with Emily Alatalo and Corey Sevier however it's hard to see who might take it up

Lifetime are showing Corey's Christmas On Mistletoe Lake and while an odd time they do air more than one Christmas movie by a particular actor it's not the norm.

Highly unlikely to be Hallmark nor GAC which only really leaves UPtv which had a weird line-up last year showing several movies previously shown by ION.

Last year's ION movies were simply dreadful so I hope they don't repeat this.

However, UP did screen a few from Reel One so I'm pinning my hopes on them for Corey.

I wonder if maybe the mid-week movies got poor viewing figures last year?

Really odd that there's no new Christmas movie on UPtv from 20 November until 02 December.

    Interesting that Hallmark is airing a double-bill on 25, 26 and 27 November at 6.00p.m. and 8.00p.m.

    1. Florence, Yes, we are going back to the Winter Castle!!! I've been hearing some buzz about this, too. I find the ice castle to be magical, fascinating, and a little scary too. I just don't know how they sleep in there with fires going. How in the world does that work??? Anyway, I hope this new movie is as good as the first one! :)

I'm just wondering if this might be a "Christmas In July" movie? - Florence

    1. Florence, That's my hunch, too... Christmas In July! Although, Kevin McGarry had a Christmas movie premiere in July last year with "My Grown-Up Christmas List." Hmmm???

If they premiere this new Christmas movie, "Christmas Goals," in July, it would probably be a good lead up to the 10th season of "When Calls the Heart!"

Or, they could promote "Christmas Goals" during "When Calls the Heart," trying to draw viewers into watching their Countdown to Christmas movies. Either way could work!

  110. Just wrapped up - Coupled Up For Christmas with Sara Canning and Marcus Rosner:

This is the year Tiffany Williams is finally going be reunited with her longtime family friend/crush Brett, only to find out he has a serious girlfriend. This is when Tiffany pairs up with a recently-heartbroken Peter, to win back the affection of their respective soulmates.

Really hope this gets picked up by one of the main channels because that plot is one of my favourites - Florence

    1. Florence, I've had my eye on that movie, as well. It certainly has an interesting storyline. There's so many Christmas movies being filmed these days, that's why I typically wait to share when the networks make their official announcements. "Coupled Up For Christmas" does sound like a cute one, though!

I also hope Reel One Entertainment distributes it to a channel we like, instead of streaming. Since Hallmark, UPtv, and Great American Family obtain movies from them now, it's a great possibility it could end up on one of those!

  111. I'm a bit worried about Reel One Entertainment although the Christmas movies will probably be okay.

There's no pattern to base anything on with GAF yet, Hallmark buy very few and although the position probably won't be clear for a couple of months it does look as if UPtv is pulling away from them.

Whether this is because of the cost or because a lot of these movies now seem to be purchased by European countries like Serbia. Croatia, Hungary, The Netherlands etc and will not see the light of day in the US so there isn't the same choice for UP, who knows?

It could be too that the woke brigade has gotten to Reel One for there are gay couples appearing with more regularity now whuch UP wouldn't want and if I'm not misunderstanding there seems to be a movie about someone getting pregnant through in vitrio fertilisation (Zoe's having a baby).

Rell One only deal with the movie industry and there doesn't seem to be anyone to contact for the general public.

The position doesn't look good - Florence

Just completed Christmas In Maple Hills with Emily Alatolo and having seen the trailer I'm really excited about it:

  115. Two new Christmas movies for 2023

Reporting For Christmas - Tamara Feldman, Matt Trudeau

Mary Romero is a serious journalist who aspires to use her platform as an investigative TV producer to make the world a better place. The general manager of her struggling Chicago-based TV station, Hank, gives Mary an assignment as far removed from that goal as it gets: a puff piece for their biggest advertiser, Johnson Toys, commemorating the 40th anniversary of one of their signature toys that will air just before Christmas. Mary grudgingly leaves for the rural town of Brunswick, Iowa, which boasts having “The Holiday Spirit All Year Round” largely because Johnson Toys, the country’s largest manufacturer of Christmas toys, provides hundreds of local jobs. She gets right to business and meets Johnson Toys’ enthusiastic CEO Alton Johnson as well as his handsome son Blake, who is next in line to run the company but wants nothing to do with Mary’s documentary, which he believes will only focus on their commercial success. After initially butting heads, Blake shows Mary around the Christmas-loving town and shares more about its rich history. The two begin warming to one another over dinner, a stroll down main street, and peppermint lattes.

A Perfect Christmas Pairing - Ansley Gordon, Chris Connell

Winter sets in as top chef Grace Cooke, at the helm of a high-end restaurant, rakes in rave reviews due to her gastro-scientific approach to cuisine. She’s close to a Michelin star when a bad review from a top critic rocks her world. With her boss’ blessing, she takes time off to see her family at their winery B&B over Christmas. There, she connects with worldly travel writer Asher St. James, and sparks fly with family traditions as Asher helps her reconnect with her roots.

There are rumours which Channel these are going to but Net will confirm in due course - Florence

  118. According to Reel One Meery Magic Christmas starring Andrew Dunbar and Patricia Isaac has been bought by Lifetime.

As Christmas nears, a financial advisor starts seeing a recurring number: 624. It’s the time she wakes, an address, the change at a Christmas shop. She’s told the number is from a Christmas angel to help make her heart’s secret wish come true. A numbers person, she calls it a statistical coincidence. But when she discovers the number’s meaning, she finds love.

This may not appear this year however as sometimes Kifetime have helc Christmas movies back for a year.

The situation at Lifetime is unclear.

With the personnell changes there are suggestions that they may be cutting back on their Christmas programme but where this is coming from and how true it might be is open to question - Florence

  121. This is awful this year - information seems to be so slow coming through - I can't get a full schedule listed.

I remember a few years back Hallmark had a couple of Seasons where they kept switching the dates of the Christmas movies round and it was a complete mess but they seem to have learned from this and now stick to their advertised original schedule.

Kudos to them and BYU who have nailed their colours to the mast.

GAF appeared to be ahead of the game when they announced their listings but for some reason has gone coy and hasn't listed the airing dates after the end of October but at least this is better than the others remaining.

Lifetime is always late and there is a lot of speculation about their position this year although I am hopeful there will be a good number of Reel One Entertainment originals.

There's nothing official from Fox Nation, ION,CBS etc.

BYU sometimes slip in a few at the last minute so I wonder if they will do the same this year?

I wish they'd all get a move on - Florence

    1. Well, the strikes did a lot of damage this year with the companies that didn't film before this summer, so some slow down was to be expected. And honestly, if any network needed to drastically cut down on it's lineup, it was Hallmark. Like, how is anyone going to have the time and interest to watch over 40 new movies?!

And whatever Lifetime does, I'll probably be too busy watching other movies or fighting to keep from having burnout to care much about their lineup is to care much, if most of their lineup doesn't come from Reel One or Nicely that is.

    1. Maria, I saw Ansley mention this a few weeks ago. It looks like it could be a good one with Teri Hatcher and Dan Payne. That was interesting to hear that the Roku Channel picked it up.

I always wonder how the process works with the networks and streaming platforms purchasing the rights to air each film.

If I have time with all of the other Christmas movies, I will try to check it out.
